SOMOS CIRCLES

Restorative Resources, through their Somos Circles program, provides an opportunity for 5th and 6th grade students to engage in small groups where facilitated open dialogue allows them to discover their unique gifts and experience what it feels like to deeply belong to an authentic community.
Over ten weeks, students explore developing empathy, connecting through stories, building trusting relationships, healthy communication and self-management, and how to take responsibility for their role in situations of conflict and take part in making things right.

As a result, students gain insight into their own natural wisdom and can begin to take their place as active leaders in their school’s culture.

The Somos Circle 10-week curriculum includes:

  1. Restorative Justice and Restorative Circle Practice (discuss punitive and restorative approaches)
  2. Power Through Stories (our own story and examples of people who transformed their lives and the lives of others)
  3. Respect (feeling respected, showing respect)
  4. Empathy and Compassion
  5. Bullying
  6. Making Things Right
  7. Apologies and Forgiveness
  8. Anger
  9. Decision-making
  10. Honor and Celebrate the Youth
