RE-ENTRY CONFERENCES

A restorative process that welcomes youth back into our community with support & dignity
Re-Entry Conferences may be held for expelled or suspended youth who are returning to school or the school district or incarcerated youth who are returning to family and the community.  The Re-entry Conference provides an opportunity to repair relationships prior to the youth’s return to the environment where the harms occurred and to set the stage for a successful return to the community.

Returning to School - For youth returning to a school or school district, a Re-entry Conference may be arranged to include the youth, their family, and school district personnel.  A trained facilitator prepares the participants for face-to-face dialogue focusing on the youth’s strengths and challenges in returning to the school district as well as the district’s needs and expectations of the youth to support a successful transition for both.  If the suspension or expulsion was the result of an incident of harm that still needs to be addressed, the Re-Entry Conference will include a discussion and amends plan for addressing those harms.

Returning to the Community - For youth who have been incarcerated and are preparing to return to their families and the community, a Re-Entry Conference may be arranged to include the youth, family, and/or community members.  The conference may also include a team of support that will focus on the youth’s strengths and challenges anticipated in the transition.  If relationships need to be repaired or rebuilt, those needs are addressed in the Re-Entry Conference to make way for a positive transition and successful involvement in the community.
